Adopt-a-Song is a grassroots project to help support songwriters working on independent recording projects. Fans are invited to "adopt" songs that are meaningful to them and contribute funding or services to support the recording of those songs. It's like giving a mini-grant to an artist whose work you want to support. Contributors receive NPR-style thank you gifts, including t-shirts, cd's, and even Ana's car (for a $1000 pledge)!
The real thank you gift, however, is the knowledge that fans are helping to keep art in the hands of artists. If we give our resources directly to support work that is meaningful to us, we can cut the "industry" out of the industry altogether. We can re-claim music and musicians can re-claim their creative integrity. Adopt-a-Song is a small step in this direction.
